Canadian Farm Tough

As the story goes
grandmother would walk down
in the cedar trees
where the spring water
is always 50 degrees.
The farm didn't have
a good well back then,
everyday she'd draw
up buckets of water
(up and in)
raising ten kids
with lot's of pretty
daughters.
She lived into her
eighties
down by the Kennedy's
cross the road headed
down towards
the river Clare.
Cousin Jenny
counts on her fingers
in 2020
the number of kids Grandmother
raised.
Cousin Dave
long walks taken
in a forest with
the dog
to lap at the chill
early fall water.
It's all right now
as it ever was
these eyes to see
this life to love.
